With Phillips Geneva set to auction one of the visually most striking examples of Rolex-Panerai Ref. 6154, a watch that once belonged to none other than legendary Panerista of the first hour, Alan C. Bloor aka “Hammer”, I was reminded to update my 2016 overview of all known examples of Ref. 6154. In the photo above and below, we see Hammer's brown dialed Radiomir Panerai 6154, next to his Luminor Panerai 6152, which has the now trademark half-crescent crown guard.

Panerai 6154 Small Egiziano
I presented indisputable evidence that one of the most famous Panerai 6154 models was equipped with an incorrect pocket watch movement and that the watch had received a replacement dial. The watch belonged to no other than Ralf Ehlers, the famous German co-author of the famous Vintage Panerai books. A Very Rare Stainless Steel Cushion-shaped Diver's Wristwatch Made for the Egyptian Navy. Signed Radiomir Panerai, Ref. 6154, Small Egiziano Model, Case Signed Rolex, No. 997'603, Movement Signed Rolex, Circa 1954.
In its flat 47 mm stainless steel case, it is today one of the rarest Vintage Panerai watches. The reference 6154 was produced for the Egyptian Navy in 1954 in very small numbers – until today only a few watches surfaced into the Vintage Panerai world.
Between the different Vintage Panerai references, the 6154 is one of the rarest and most attractive because of its unique flat case design and only a small number of watches existing today. The watch appears with brown faded “Radiomir Panerai” dial, 8 mm Rolex crown and Rolex 618 / Type 1 movement. The Panerai Reference 6154 is a very unusual bird, in the sense its case is EXTREMELY Streamlined compared to the 6152-1 case body. I put together the image below that compares the side profiles of the Vintage 1952 Panerai Reference 6152 with side profile of the Vintage 1954 Panerai Reference 6154. It's just perfect and the quintessence of ref. 6154 imho. Quick specs list: - River old 6154 complete case set - Athaya tall tube wide hands - Athaya 8mm crown and tube - Cortebert 616 with nice patina - Masterpiece Bigwaved dial - Masterpiece Manifatture Serioso strap And .
Features of the watch: Reference: 6154. Dial: “Radiomir Panerai” (sandwich, engraved) Case number: 997603. Movement: Rolex Cal. 618 / Type 2. We hope that this watch will find a good new home and remains surfaced in the Vintage Panerai collectors world.
